Brief description

In this lecture approximately 5-6 comprehensive cases are solved in changing teams during the semester. All teams shall present their case solutions in class. Before each case study the theoretical basis needed for the case is taught/repeated in a lecture and then needs to be rehearsed and broadened by the teams in own literature and case related research.

Remark on the assessment methods

The portfolio examination comprises 100 points and consists of a report (R) and an one-hour written examination (K1). The report and the written examination are weighted by 50 points each.

Exam duration and scope

Written examination: in accordance with the applicable study regulations

Report: approx. 10-15 min. presentation + approx. 15-20 pages paper written report

Portfolio exam:

  • Written examination: in accordance with the applicable study regulations
  • Report: Presentation: approx. 5-10 minutes; written report: approx 10-15 pages

Recommended prior knowledge

Management tools and concepts, Modules 1 and 2 of the consulting specialization, fundamental knowledge of controlling and finances.

The Module builds up on the content taught in Modules 1 and 2 of the specialization. Registration to this module is only possible, when the previous Modules of the specialization have been successfully completed. Otherwise the lecturer specifically needs to agree to registration upfront.

Knowledge Broadening

Students learn about consulting procedures of external consultanting firms and inhouse consulting teams. The relevant procedures and methods from the fields of strategic management, value chain management and the accompanying support from controlling and finance are learnt on the basis of case study examples, and the possible ways to apply them are assessed. 

Knowledge deepening

Students have deepened the knowledge how to approach and successfully solve cases.

Knowledge Understanding

Students learn how to reduce complex business situations to a minimal number of decisive problems which need to be solved. 

Application and Transfer

Students can transfer the learned approaches to various business situations.

Students are able to prioritize, select and apply relevant methods for problem solving in real case situations.

Communication and Cooperation

Students are able to reasonably argue and justify their standpoint in a cooperative and team oriented way.

Academic Self-Conception / Professionalism

This course puts students into real live consulting situations and helps to develope a clear pictures of potential professional situations in the future. Besides training the needed conceptual and theoretical skills it also includes the discussion of required softskills and an understanding of potential consequences of recommendations.

Literature

Lectures, literature, case studies and case study related research will be provided during the course.

Linkage to other modules

This is the final module of the three lecture consulting specialization. It builds up on the content taught in Modules 1 and 2 of the specialization. Registration to this module is only possible, when the previous Modules of the specialization have been successfully completed or when the lecturer specifically agrees to registration upfront.
